Gulnara Karimova was born on July 8, 1972, in Fergana, Uzbek SSR, Soviet Union, into the family of Islam Karimov, who would later become Uzbekistan's first president, and his wife Tatyana Karimova. She grew up with her sister, Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva, in an environment that was witnessing the transitions of a country on the brink of independence. Her upbringing was marked by a blend of cultural influences, setting the stage for her diverse future endeavours.
Approximately 5,000 participants supported a landmark charitable marathon in Tashkent, initiated by Gulnara Karimova, the Fund Forum, and the “In the Name of Life” Association. This pioneering event in Uzbekistan raised funds to provide medication for breast cancer patients and organize nationwide diagnostic campaigns.
Through the Educational Grants Program, students on contract at universities were able to cover their tuition fees using the Fund's grants.
The 'Yangi avlod' (New Generation) National Festival was annually hosted by the Fund Forum and the Kamalak Children's Organization from 2004. The 2009 festival celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, with support from UNICEF.
